Seminar 10:
Camp and School Transportation Safety
Session length: 2 1/2 hours
Designed for: Administrators
One of the greatest risks we face in the operation of our camp and school
programs lies in the area of transportation of participants, as we are
exposed to the serious injury or loss of life of a large number of participants
at one time. Also, this part of our operations is heavily regulated
by both federal and state regulations. Is your transportation program
in compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, State Dept.
of Education regulations, Department of Motor Vehicles guidelines, PUC
regulations, and CHP Motor Carrier requirements? What type of vehicles
are schools forbidden to use for student transportation? Which of
your employees are subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing? Should
your drivers be enrolled in the DMV pull-notice program?

This workshop includes: an overview of federal and state regulations
related to camper/student transportation; drug and alcohol testing program
and policies; background and driver record check procedures; driver training
models; vehicle types for camper/student transportation; maintenance requirements
for owned vehicles.
Key Concepts:
- Review of legislation and organizations regulating student and camper
transportation
- Critical information for developing an effective driver training program
and driver handbook
- Review of transportation options for camps and schools, and benefits
