11th
Session length: 2 hours
Designed for: Administrators, faculty, program directors,
camp staff
The September 11th terrorist attacks made us aware of a number of contingencies
that we had not previously planned for in our emergency preparedness.
What have you added to your plans since September 11th? This seminar builds
on the general Emergency Preparedness seminar with a focus on specific
threats that should be addressed in expanded plans.
Topics include: overview of bio-terrorism risks and exposures;
preparing for low-level nuclear exposure (dirty bombs); additional medical
and emergency supplies needed; procedures for mail handling; revising
communication plans for internal and external communication; adding central
shelter and shelter in place to your emergency action plans; updating
release of students procedures and interacting with community support
resources effectively.
Key Concepts:
- Additional risks have emerged since Sept. 11th that should be addressed
in our emergency response plans
- Parents have a higher level of concern since Sept. 11th for their
children's safety, and expect us to be better prepared
- Additional emergency supplies and procedures need to be in place to
deal with these types of emergencies
